The empty space after a Bangkok holiday
The Stock Exchange of Thailand closes for Songkran and for the New Year stretch. When the board opens again, many charts show a jump. In the academy room we treat that jump as distance, the same kind of distance we measure from an entry idea to an invalidation. The holiday does not wash the sheet clean.
What the empty space is
On a printed chart the gap is a blank. Nothing traded there. Learners like to start the new page at the first print after the holiday, as if the last print before the closure had expired. Nalin’s question is always the same: if your invalidation sat on the far side of that blank, did the blank get smaller while the exchange was shut? It did not.
A share that closed at 24 before the holiday and opened at 27 has already travelled three baht before you were allowed to act. If your idea needed a one-baht invalidation to keep the size you wanted, the open may have spent that room. The honest move is to remeasure from the new print back to the level that still proves the idea wrong, and then to resize. Keeping yesterday’s quantity because the pattern “still looks the same” ignores the distance you did not sit through.
A classroom habit
On the first Saturday studio after a long closure, Arun hands out the pre-holiday chart and the post-holiday chart as two sheets. Everyone writes the distance across the gap in baht, then writes the size they would have used before the closure and the size the same loss allows after it. The second number is often smaller. It is the same arithmetic as evening two of the Intensive, applied to a calendar the whole table recognises.
We do not ask the table to decide whether the gap will fill. Filling is a story about the future. The sheet is a story about how much is already at risk if the old invalidation is the one you still mean. If you no longer mean that level, you need a new level, written down, before you keep the old size.
What we leave out
The note does not name a share to buy after the next holiday. Different charts gap for different reasons, and a classroom packet is historical on purpose.
